Quickwrite of the Day #75: What’s your hidden talent?

My Thoughts.PNG

“Writing can be used as a vehicle to express ourselves as we negotiate the journey through our lives” (Gallagher, 2011: p.24)

Today’s Quickwrite:

What is your hidden talent or something that you can do better than anyone you know? It doesn’t have to be world-changing, just something that you do well, large or small!

Here are some examples of hidden talents in my family to give you a bit of an idea:

  • My sister can make a croquembouche tower

  • I know all the words/lyrics to Disney movies made in the 1990s

  • My dad can build guitar amplifiers from scratch

  • My mum can paint and crochet like a professional!

  • My brother-in-law can walk on his hands

  • My partner can juggle three things at once

Once you have a hidden talent in mind, describe a moment where you displayed it. You might:

  • Reflect on what you were thinking or feeling in that moment and afterwards

  • Describe other people’s reactions to the display of your hidden talent

  • Describe the moment from the perspective of the tools/objects you used to display your talent (Eg: Painting a self-portrait from the perspective of the paintbrush)

  • …or come up with other ideas of your own that the phrase ‘hidden talents’ brings to mind!

Give it a go and see where it takes you!
